Navratri Special- Jhatpat Recipes: Sanwa ki Kheer and Upma


Happy Navratri to all my friends .

Sanwa Ki Kheer :


Sanwa Millet ( Sama) : 50 gm

Milk : 1/2 kg

Sugar : 100 gm

Almonds, Pistachios , Cardamom powder as per taste.

Saffron: 5-6 leaves


  1. Boil the milk in a heavy bottom pan.
  2. Wash the sanwa millet and put it in boiled milk.
  3. Cook Sanwa at low heat for 15 minutes and then add sugar to it.
  4. After 5 minutes, take the pan off and mix saffron, cardamom powder,       almonds and pistachios on top of it.
  5. The Kheer is now ready to be eaten.


Sanwa ka Upma:


Sanwa Millet : 100 gm

Potato: 1 piece

Green Chili: 1 piece

Ginger : 1 small piece

Fresh Coriander leaves and 1 piece of lime.

Sendha Salt : 1/2 teaspoon

Ghee: 1 Teaspoon

Ajwain : 1/2 teaspoon Ghee


  1. Put 1 teaspoon of ghee in a cooker and put ajwain seeds in it when ghee is hot.
  2. Put cut potatoes, ginger and green chili in it.
  3. Saute them and once it is done, put Sanwa Millet in it. Mix sendha namak in it.
  4. Put 3 bowls of water to it and close the lid of the cooker.
  5. After one whistle, take the cooker off.
  6. Once the steam cools down, take it in a bowl. Garnish it with corainder leaves and put lime juice as per taste.



Healthy Snacks: Oil Free Kurmure Namkeen



My daughter recently asked me to cook a snack which is healthy and tastes good also just like namkeen or chivda. So I thought of this recipe and made it at home. It was an instant hit with her and she till date enjoys it to the fullest  with a garma garam cup of Indian tea during evenings.


Murmure : 250 gm

Peanuts ( Mungfali): 100 gm

Roasted Chana : 100 gm

Cashew Nuts: 50 gm

Curry Leaves: 4-5

Salt and Chaat Masala as per taste


  1. Roast Murmure 10-15 minutes on low heat by adding 2-4 drops of oil and a pinch of turmeric in a pan.
  2. Roast peanuts or mungfali until it turns brown and add curry leaves along with it.
  3. Roast cashew nuts.
  4. Mix all these together and add salt , chaat masala as per taste.


Healthy Butter Free/ Egg Free Chocolate Cake


I made this healthy cake for my son’s birthday. It was very well liked by everyone as it is butter free and can be eaten without any guilt. My husband has been told  not to eat any cream or butter, so I had to come up with something that can be enjoyed by him also.

So here I am sharing this egg free cake recipe with everyone so that you and your family can enjoy it as well.



All Purpose Flour or Maida : 1.5 Cup

Crushed Sugar : 3/4 Cup

Chocolate Powder : 1 tsp

Corn flour : 1 Tsp

Honey : 1 Tsp

Baking Soda : 1 Tsp

Pinch of Salt

Cinnamon Powder : 3/4 Tsp

Olive Oil : 1 Tsp

Milk: 1 Cup

As required: Sliced Walnuts/Almonds


  1. Mix all these ingredients together and prepare the batter. Mix it till the batter is smooth.
  2. In a pan, grease the bottom with a brush dipped in oil. Pour the batter in the pan.
  3. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes to 180 degree C . Place the pan and bake the cake now for 30-40 minutes. Allow to cool.
  4. For garnishing, put sliced almonds/walnuts as per requirement.


Spicy Delicious Porridge Breakfast!!



Do you have leftover food at your home from last night dinner? Then don’t worry you are at the right place. Yesterday I had Daliya left from dinner and nobody wanted to eat it plain today morning. So I thought why not change it and make a healthy, spicy breakfast item for my family. So I made this dish for them and everybody simply loved it. So here is the recipe for you too….


As required or As per taste: Oil. Mustard Seeds, Curry Patta, Asafetida , Green Chili, Garlic, Salt, Red Chili Powder, Turmeric

Chopped Onion – 1/2 bowl.

Tomato – 1/2 bowl

1 cup – Cooked porridge from last night dinner.


1) Put oil in a pan. Once the oil becomes hot, put curry patta, mustard seeds and asafetida in it.

2) Cut onion and tomatoes in small pieces. Put onion in the pan and heat them till they becomes brown.

3) Put Tomatoes now and sauté them. After that put salt, turmeric and red chili powder as per taste.

4) Put the leftover one bowl of boiled daliya/porridge from last night dinner and mix it thoroughly. Add 1 cup of water and heat it for 10 minutes on slow heat and cook it properly.

5) For garnishing, use coriander leaves or mint leaves and sprinkle bhujia to make it even more spicy.

*For people who don’t have leftover daliya, please use raw daliya/porridge and make it in a pressure cooker. Add 3 cup of water in 1 cup of daliya/porridge and take 2 whistles to get the tasty breakfast ready for your family.



Rice Dhoklas – A Delicious Vegeterian Breakfast Option!!

If you have run out of breakfast options, here is a new one called  Rice Dhoklas..

There are lot of times when we have leftovers from the previous day’s dinner and normally we don’t have any option but to throw it out. So I decided to share this recipe for people who hate wastage of food…

This dish can be made in 15 minutes …

My family loved it…hopefully yours will too!!


1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour

1/2 cup Besan

1 cup White Rice ( Boiled or leftover from previous day dinner)

As per taste:

Oil, Mustard Seeds, Curry Leaves, Green Chilli, Grated Ginger, Coriander, Salt, Red Chili Powder, Garam Masala, Turmeric Powder.


1) Mix all these ingredients along with following spices ( salt, turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder) and prepare long rolls of these and press them between both the hands. Place the pressed rolls in a steam cooker and steam them for 10-15 minutes. Take them out, cut them into small pieces.

2) Take half teaspoon of oil in  pan. Once the oil is heated, put mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chili, grated ginger and then put the cut small pieces in the pan.

3) Mix them for 2 minutes and take them out from the pan. Place cut Green Chili for decoration on top of it.

4) Serve them hot with Green chutney and sprinkle Bhujia on top of it to make it more spicy if required.
